The EASIEST Bread You'll Ever Make (Beginner Bread Recipe)

Minimal pantry ingredients? No bread-baking experience? Need to swap flours? This simple bread dough recipe can handle it, plus you can turn it into pizza, sandwich bread, dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls, you name it!

How to Make Sourdough Starter:

1 1/3 cup warm water (100-110*F)
2 teaspoons active, dry yeast
2 teaspoons brown sugar or honey
1 egg
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

In a large mixing bowl, combine the water, yeast, and sugar.

Stir until dissolved, then add in the egg and salt.

Add the flour one cup at a time. Once the mixture is too stiff to mix with a fork, transferred it to a well-floured countertop.

Knead for 4-5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is continues to stick to your hands.

Shape the smooth dough into a ball and place in a bowl. Cover with a dish cloth and let rise in a warm place for one hour (or until the dough has doubled).

Grease a standard-sized loaf pan (9″x5″). After the first rise is complete, punch down the dough and shape it into a “log”. Place it into the loaf pan and allow to rise 20-30 more minutes, or until it starts to peek over the edge of the pan. Bake in a 350* oven for 25-30 minutes, or until lightly browned.

  • Maybe someone could help me, after I did the first rise I wanted to shape them into dinner rolls, when I punched it down and began to try to separate the dough it was so sticky it was stuck to my hands I couldn't even get them into ball shapes the were that sticky, I suppose my question is did I not add enough flower, did I kneed to much, kneed not enough, not let it sit long enough? I'm still going ahead with my rolls even if they are misshapen, but I am curious what I could do better next time. Thank anyone who has any more knowledge then me 🙂

  • If you want to go extra, before popping it into the oven, score it, i.e. make a single long incision along the bread at a very small angle.

  • Lovely recipe! Bread proofing tip: if your oven has a pilot light, there’s no need to heat it at all and if your oven doesn’t have a pilot light, just turn on the actual oven light. It will warm your oven up to about 100 degrees f. which is perfect for yeast dough to rise in, without worrying about it being too hot to kill the yeast.
