$170 vs $13 French Fries: Pro Chef & Home Cook Swap Ingredients | Epicurious



Professional chef Alan Delgado and home cook Emily are swapping ingredients and hitting the kitchen to make loaded french fries. We set esteemed home cook Emily up with $170 worth of supplies – everything she’d need to make Alan’s intricate recipe. Meanwhile, a modest $13 worth of ingredients was sent back the other way to be elevated into something gourmet. As she’s known to do, food scientist Rose dialed in to assist Emily with a few questions she had along the way. Whose version will come out on top when our chef’s meet at the end?

    * $10 apple cider vinegar (???)
    * $9 white vinegar (???)

    What the hell? You are gonna use a spoonful of each of those things AT most. And who is paying $10 for vinegar and $6 for garlic and $10 for cumin seeds?! I know there’s inflation, but you are FOR SURE getting RIPPED OFF BIG TIME.

  • I think it would be fun to see pro chef vs novice OR 4 levels of one-pot dishes. A big reason I don’t like elevated cooking is all of the dirty dishes that it usually requires

  • Why are the "cheap" fries so expensive? $2 in potatoes, $2 in oil, $0.50 of salt and you have fries. They are super simple to make. French slice potatoes, put oil in a pit and raise to 450F. Fry potatoes until golden. Sprinkle with salt. Done. World's easiest recipe.

  • I enjoy the channel. I don't enjoy videos where the chef cheats by using additional ingredients, or goes beyond what they are given. This chef obviously uses way more than what he was given, in ingredients and quantity.

  • I enjoy watching this channel so much more; now that the professionals are only using what they are given. In past, some of them would grab stuff from their own kitchen. It made me feel like they were cheating a bit. I always watch every video that Emily is ; she's just fantastic!!
